Outcome types allows you to categorize your goals based on their specific characteristics and tracking requirements.
You can find and edit your Outcome Types by accessing the edit outcome modal. Learn more: Editing outcomes/key results
The "Improvement" outcome type is used when your goal involves progressing from a starting point to a specific target.
Goal Tracking: Tability will track the progress based on a specified starting value and a target value and the given timeline of the Plan. Tability will base it's confidence recommendation based on how close your value is to a direct trajectory from start to finish.
Chart Visualization: A chart will display progress towards the target over time, showing a trajectory line going from start to target values.
The "Stay Above" outcome type is suitable for goals where you need to track a metric and ensure it remains above a certain threshold.
Goal Tracking: Tability will continuously monitor the metric and ensure it stays above the specified threshold.
Chart Visualization: A chart will display the metric's values over time, with a flat line indicating the threshold to stay above.
The "Stay Below" outcome type is ideal for goals that require tracking a metric and ensuring it remains below a specific threshold.
Goal Tracking: Tability will keep an eye on the metric and ensure it remains below the designated threshold.
Chart Visualization: A chart will display the metric's values over time, with a flat line indicating the threshold to stay below.
The "No Target" outcome type, also known as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI), is used for goals where you are monitoring a metric without a specific target in mind.
Goal Tracking: Tability will track the metric without a predefined target, allowing you to monitor performance without a specific goal value. This outcome type only tracks value, and not confidence, so you do not need to update the confidence when doing Check-ins.
Chart Visualization: A chart will display the metric's values over time, providing insights into its trends and fluctuations. Because this outcome type does not have a confidence level associated with it, all points on the graph are colored blue—not the normal green, yellow, red like other charts have.
The "Confidence Only" outcome type is employed when you want to track the owner's confidence in completing a goal over time, without directly measuring a specific metric's success. This is great for health checks, analysis, and goals where clear measurables are not yet defined.
Goal Tracking: Tability will track the owner's confidence level as it evolves over time.
Chart Visualization: A chart will show the changes in confidence over time. The chart will plot points based on just the three confidence types: On Track (green), At Risk (yellow), and Off Track (red).
